Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Local 1287 is one of the largest CUPE Local in the region representing over 1400 members. Founded in 1970 to represent municipal workers and since then expanded to a composite local representing 13 units

Our union represents employees who provide essential services that keep Niagara Region running. Our members deliver childcare, ensure residents have clean drinking water, provide public health services, administer social assistance programs, support long-term care homes, provide mental health services, courts, work with unhouse individuals at shelters and food banks, support individuals navigating the justice system, library and municipal offices. We also operate emergency dispatch services, maintain roads, remove snow, manage forestry, and keep wastewater systems safe. Every day, CUPE 1287 members are proud to serve the 539,180 individuals who call Niagara Region home.
