Land Acknowledgement

We wish to acknowledge that our present-day community of CUPE 1287,  stands on the land on which the Anishinaabe, Attawandaron, and Haudenosaunee Indigenous People lived, and still live, under the Wampum Treaty of One Dish, One Spoon, an Indigenous treaty that they had with each other.  This land is now covered by the Upper Canada Treaties and is within the land protected by the Wampum Treaty of One Dish, One Spoon.

We express our gratitude to all Indigenous Peoples across Turtle Island who have protected and nurtured these lands in the past, and continue to do so.

Awareness of the hurt and injustice suffered by Indigenous Peoples is part of the painful journey of truth, reconciliation, and healing, that is needed to aid this community in the quest to overcome assimilation, colonialization, racism, and injustice.

We acknowledge that there is much to do to right the wrongs committed to all Indigenous People. We are committed to strive to live in right relationship.
